History
Jamaica Family Planning Association, seventh member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation was founded by Beth and Lenworth Jacobs in 1957. The Jacobs acknowledge the need for pregnancy planning and birth spacing using modern contraceptives given the high rates of population growth.
In the early 1960’s, Lenworth became the Executive Director of the National Family Planning Board. Both Jacobs continued to work assiduously in ensuring that the family planning programme remained alive in Jamaica.
