My summer internship at the Lenworth Jacobs Clinic began on July 2nd, 2019, and ended on August 21st, 2019. It was truly an eye-opening experience.
As a medical student, this internship provided me with my first opportunity to observe the interaction between patient and service provider and exposed me to the administrative aspects of health services. The clinic is located at 65 East Street in Downtown Kingston and is operated by the Jamaica Family Planning Association (JFPA).
While working at the Lenworth Jacobs Clinic I was able to interact with a wide variety of customers, patients, well-wishers, and wonderful staff. I was welcomed into the JFPA Family with open arms and I felt truly appreciated.
My duties included filling out customer service feedback forms and developing an outline for an updated Pregnancy Information Brochure. Both tasks allowed me to develop my verbal and written communication skills and time management skills and to gain a better understanding of the health sector.
This experience was indeed a memorable one and has truly heightened my skills as an upcoming health professional. I am grateful to the staff and administrators at the Lenworth Jacobs Clinic for allowing me to be a contributing member of their team. I would encourage other students to contact the Association to ask about volunteering. It will be worth your while.
